Thankfully it wasn't mine this time - but it's a bigger problem that I thought. I was in the diningroom yesterday and a co-worker mentioned she heard about my lunch disappearing. Well - hers was taken too, the next day.
Apparently there are people in this place of business that think it's ok to enter conference rooms during a break in the meeting and help themselves to catered food before the meeting is over!
There seems to be a serious problem in offices around the world of lunch snatchers. It's almost like we've gone back to junior high, but when someone swipes your favorite sandwich every day or even your lunch money, sometimes you've got to do more than just leave a note for the snatcher asking them to stop taking it.
There's an anti-theft lunch bag - yes, you heard me right. "Anti-Theft Lunch Bags are regular sandwich bags that have green splotches printed on both sides. After your sandwich is placed inside, no one will want to touch it." http://www.skforlee.com/independent_work/lunch_bag.html. The problem with this bag is someone might think your sandwich is gross and throw it away!
It is said that people who steal have a lack of self control. The snatcher sees something in the fridge (s)he likes, they get the urge to have it and that makes them steal.
On the other hand, stealing something from the fridge is pretty daring you don't know if someone is going to walk in on you taking their lunch. There are others who do it just for the thrill, although I'm not so sure that stealing someones lunch is that thrilling, but if your life is that boring....
Sometimes, people snatch lunches for attention. In my case, it worked. They got my attention alright especially after I put a note on the fridge door. My ideal note would be:
Dear Lunch Snatcher:
Touch my lunch again and you're dead!
or
I didn't go to kindergarten and I don't like sharing - so stop taking my lunch!
or
You have no idea what's in my lunch - therefore I claim no responsibility to what may happen to you after you eat it!
or
Your mamma doesn't work here, she won't do your dishes and she sure as hell didn't make that lunch for you!
Something I always tell my daughter "Desperate people do desperate things". I really hope that the lunch snatcher is taking our lunches because (s)he is really hungry and can't afford to buy lunch and not doing it for the thrill because that would REALLY piss me off.
