A True Compass

I recently finished Senator Ted Kennedy's memoir and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised.  Yes, I'm from Massachusetts like the Kennedy's, but that doesn't mean I LOVED everything about them.   Let's face it, they have their issues like all families, theirs are unfortunately constantly in the public eye.

Whether you are a democrat or republican I would recommend you reading the book.  It touches a lot more than the late Senator and his challenges and triumphs throughout his life, it's a great history book!

Think about today's politicians... which one of them was involved in the political action as much as any of the Kennedy's?  The family was involved in EVERYTHING politics and he documented all of it.  Journal after journal and he took meticulous notes and kept photographs from different stages in his life.  He lets you in on different discussions that were made behind the scenes and how deals were made across the party lines to get things done.  The book briefly discusses the assassinations of his brothers, his life on Capitol Hill starting from when his brothers started getting into politics, the election of 1962 when he was first elected as Senator, the impeachment of Nixon and the emotion he felt when he was diagnosed with the brain tumor.   For a lot of us, we read about these tragedies in our school books, but let me tell you his first hand accounts are gripping and mesmerizing.

So - if you have the time, during a nor'easter, snow storm or a lazy Sunday afternoon, check out the book from your local library and read it.

You'll enjoy the history of the politics of this country.
