I needed to know....
Over the past year, a lot of famous people have passed away. Patrick Swayze, Eunice Kennedy Shriver, Michael Jackson, Ed McMahon, Captain Lou Albano (WWE), Farrah Fawcett, Roy Disney, Natasha Richardson, DJ AM, Soupy Sales, John Hughes, Jett Travolta, Mary Travers, The mascot for the University of Georgia (a bulldog died of a heart attack), Brittany Murphy, Billy Mays, Ted Kennedy and I could go on and on.
Some of them died of old age, others of cancer or heart attacks. Some of them had a horrible accident and some over dosed on drugs.
The latest two, Brittany Murphy and Casey Johnson made me curious because they have not told us how they died other than "natural causes". What constitutes a natural cause? What's natural? And who defines it?
In medicine, death by natural causes is a loosely-defined term used by coroners describing death when the cause of death was a naturally occurring disease process, or is not apparent given medical history or circumstances. It's kind of like a catch all. You rule everything else out and you have this option.
The legal definition, death is either natural, as when it happens in the usual course, without any violence; or violent, when it is caused either by the acts of the deceased, or those of others.
So - there you have it or I have it. My curiosity is no more.
Wonder what Ducky would say..... no doubt there would be a good story to go along with it.
