Standing up for what you believe in

Yesterday was the first day of my last class in my graduate program.  Before the class started, I was excited and thinking about what I'm going to do after graduation not to mention having 2 1/2 months off from school.

I got my books, printed the syllabus and waited until noon for the on-line session to open to check things out.  This is litigation - we're watching 12 Angry Men for class.  Finally, someone is  thinking outside the box!

I hopped on-line and noticed the professors name (he who shall not be named) and my heart sank.  This professor is also the department head.

After contacting my academic advisor and e-mailing back and forth a couple of times with him, I was then told the Program Manager would have to get involved.  Bring it on!  I was not going to sit through another semester with he who shall not be named and put up with negative attacks and no positive feedback whatsoever (especially because I knew there were 4 other litigation classes going on at the same time).  This is my LAST class.

Teachers across the country agree that it's too difficult to weed out ineffective teachers who have tenure.  Tenure provides teachers with job security and generally is awarded a few years after educators enter the profession. It is supposed to ensure teachers can't be fired at the drop of a dime.  Some college professors are worse - they aren't in it for teaching they're in it for the notoriety.

Well - I fought for what I wanted and got it and will now have a great last class with the professor who offered me a job in Burrrmont (Vermont) when I pass the bar.  :)
