You've got it wrong Mr. President - we can't quit....

In the speech last night, President Obama tells us "I took office amid two wars, an economy rocked by severe recession, a financial system on the verge of collapse, and a government deeply in debt. Experts from across the political spectrum warned that if we did not act, we might face a second depression. So we acted - immediately and aggressively. And one year later, the worst of the storm has passed."  Has it really?? We have an average 10% unemployment rate (there are some states where that number is much higher), people are working two and three jobs just to make ends meet, we've bailed out Wall Street and haven't got anything in return (have you looked at your 401k statement lately), we are still at war (although at least now there's an exit strategy), the banks aren't lending money,  and we're still waiting for change.

I know change wasn't promised overnight, but you're a year in and next year you're going to start campaigning for 2012 if you decide to run.  As someone who listens to both sides of the aisle, let me tell you that if you don't start turning things around for the working middle class (me) - you will not get reelected.  You see, there are a lot of Americans who are like me.  You see, I am a hardworking full time mom, a student and a volunteer that happens to work in your backyard.  But because I'm over a certain income level, I don't get tax cuts or credits like people who make less than me, but I too need a break.  Walk a month in our shoes and you'll quickly see that the storm hasn't passed it's just sitting over our heads like poor Eeyore.

Also, in last nights State of the Union Address he stated "Despite our hardships, our union is strong. We do not give up. We do not quit. We do not allow fear or division to break our spirit. In this new decade, it's time the American people get a government that matches their decency; that embodies their strength."   Mr. President - we can't quit.  In some cases, our spirit, our courage and pride is all we have.  I've worked with the homeless and the working poor and trust me, those three things are what they hold closest to their hearts.

If we gave up and quit what kind of example would we be showing our children?  That when things get tough just throw in the towel?  I'm not saying that there haven't been times when the towel has been very close to being thrown in, but it never quite left the hand because there has to be another way and we've leaned on our faith to pull us through and be patient for things to change.

My message to President Obama and Congress, we elected you to make change in our country now get some chutzpah and do it.
