Things YOU can do to make a difference...

As Chantel and I are getting ready for our east coast Thanksgiving tour, I am trying to think of ways to be creative about Christmas (she still hasn't given me a list!).  I came across a couple of inexpensive ideas that I thought I would share with you.

Wreaths Across America  -  Donate a wreath in your childs name
Wreaths Across America welcomes you to participate in our annual laying of the wreaths effort at Arlington National Cemetery on December 12, 2009 and over 380 Remembrance Ceremonies world wide. Ceremonial wreaths for each branch of the military will be sent to all of the participating State and National cemeteries along with many local town cemeteries. Wreaths will also be provided for 24 offshore cemeteries, including Normandy Beach and a large Veteran’s commemorative wreath will be sent to each state’s State House.

To sponsor a wreath, go to www.wreathsacrossamerica.org for details - We ask that you go to the website above and sponsor a wreath for our chosen cemetary – Arlington National Cemetery (is for Maryland). For $15.00, you will sponsor the laying of one wreath at the Arlington National Cemetery.

Fisher House Foundation and Hero Miles
Fisher House Foundation http://www.fisherhouse.org/programs/heroMiles provides free airline tickets to military men and women who are undergoing treatment at a military or VA medical center incident to their service in Iraq or Afghanistan, and their families.

If you are not planning on going on a vacation in 2010, why not consider donating your miles?

Ranger Rosary - This is a great craft project for a cold day!
The rugged combat rosaries are to be sent to our servicemen and women serving throughout the world.
The rosaries are distributed by chaplains, especially those deployed in combat zones, those at stateside
training bases, the Navy fleet and military hospitals.  http://www.rangerrosary.com/

Coffee for the Troops Program (cpffee - need I say more?)
This Program sends care packages of coffee to the troops overseas. http://www.williamiii.com/

Volunteer with the USO
You can volunteer in so many different ways.  Whether helping a soldier with a connecting flight, distributing a Care Package, serving snacks with a smile, providing local information, or "welcoming home" troops from deployment, USO volunteers are vital to the success of the USO’s mission.

And my favorite (and not just because I love a man in uniform!)
Marine Toys for Tots Foundation
The mission of Marine Toys for Tots Foundation is to assist the U. S. Marine Corps in providing a tangible sign of hope to economically disadvantaged children at Christmas.
