"The South" is in quotes because I don't really live in the "South", in my opinion. When I think of the south, I think of Georgia, Florida, Texas and the gulf states. Maryland isn't south - although technically it is because it's south of the Mason Dixon line (http://www.sonofthesouth.net/slavery/slave-maps/mason-dixon-line.htm).
Most of the people I've met in the Washington DC area are transplants. We all grew up somewhere else and for one reason or another moved to this area to call it home.
There's a headline in the news today "Fierce snowstorm gains strength after hitting West" that I (like many school children/teachers/principals) are pretty excited about. Why you ask? Because here in the DC area, they shut the federal government down for SNOW! Which means, my employer shuts down too (and we still get paid)! I know what you're thinking (at least the people up north) they shut down for snow?? Yes and it's pretty funny. You see, when the white flakes fall from the sky complete panic hits the area and people lose their minds!
I am hoping there are a lot more headlines like this headed my way and will do my part by wearing my pajamas inside out and backwards and doing the snow dance! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrWD0TRXhFg&feature=related
