And we thought Mike Tyson was bad.
A 27-year-old Michigan woman bit off "a significant portion" of her sister's nose during a fight Sunday. Police recovered the detached piece. Photographs indicated one-third of her nose was bitten off. The 28-year-old woman was to meet with a plastic surgeon at University of Michigan Hospital. The "woman" was arrested and charged with mayhem and domestic violence.
Mayhem, defined in part under a 1931 Michigan law as mutilating another person's nose, is a 10-year felony.
Talk about motivation ...
Sweden - As a Weight Watchers group gathered for a routine weigh-in, the dieters got an idea of how far they still had to go: The floor underneath them collapsed.
"We suddenly heard a huge thud; we almost thought it was an earthquake and everything flew up in the air," "The floor collapsed in one corner of the room and along the walls." Thankfully no one was injured but they moved the weigh-in to the hallway just in case.
Poe
Maryland - A mysterious visitor who each year leaves roses and cognac at the grave of Edgar Allan Poe on the writer's birthday failed to show early Tuesday, breaking with a ritual that began more than 60 years ago.
The tradition dates back to at least 1949, according to newspaper accounts from the era. Since then, an unidentified person has come every year on Jan. 19 to leave three roses and a half-bottle of cognac at Poe's grave in a church cemetery in downtown Baltimore.
The event has become a pilgrimage for die-hard Poe fans, some of whom travel hundreds of miles. About three dozen stood huddled in blankets during the overnight cold Tuesday, peering through the churchyard's iron gates hoping to catch a glimpse of the figure known only as the "Poe toaster."
