I finished my classes in mid-February but that hasn't stopped me from jumping into something new to get involved in.
I am helping plan a Street Festival. Yep - we're shutting down 2/10ths of a mile of road and having a party. There's a lot more work involved in this than you think, trust me.
We wrote to the county to get permission to shut down the road. Thankfully they said yes and have a good time.
Then we had to think about what we want at the Street Festival. Music and food are musts. We are planning on three live bands having sets during the day and then having a DJ alternate during down time.
Food - major project. Do you know how hard it is to find vendors for these kinds of things? We contacted a TON of local restaurants and have begun searching the web in the state of Maryland. Crazy I know, but we need food and lots of it.
Sponsors - don't forget. We need money to support the effort and to pay back what we're spending. We've sent close to 50 packets out and we're waiting patiently for some to bite.
Media - radio stations have been notified and the papers will next week. It's on the web, Facebook and Twitter (yes I tweet via facebook).
Chlidren's activities include face painting, sand art, clowns, balloon makers, unicycle riders, you name it - we're adding it. Let's face it, if the kids are bored, mom and dad won't spend money and hang around.
Ugh - there's so much more and we're slowly working our way thru it.
Did I mention it's May 15th? Plenty of time.......
too bad we'll be out in Colorado, I was just thinking that would be fun to bring Malachi to!
