Where there's a will ...

"Where there's a will, there's a way" is an old English proverb meaning a person with determination will find a way of doing something.

Months ago when I was contemplating my future (since C's was mapped out for the next four years) I knew a few things:

1. I did not want to stay at my current job for the next 25 years in order to retire from the firm;

2. I did not want to stay in Maryland (as much as I tried, it's never been "home" to me); and

3. I desperately need a change.

I had to plot things out.  First, where do I want to live.  Quite honestly, for the longest time I was thinking of moving back to Massachusetts into Boston. I'd be closer to family and friends and living in the city was something I loved bc (before C).

That quickly changed when C got accepted to UCONN.  Why did it change, out-of-state tuition is $40,000 and in-state is $20,000.  In my eyes, moving to CT is a no brainer.

So I know I'm moving to CT, but no idea where.  Thankfully I have friends that I can chat with and get some idea of where, then come to find out the property management company where I am living now has property in Middletown, CT.   Score!

Let me tell you, CT is a tough state to find a patent job in.  The major cities are insurance and banking industry cities.  Nevertheless, I had a place to live and I was going to find a job.  It was going to happen.

I sent out maybe 30 resumes over a couple week period.  Sitting and waiting for any response was torture.  Then, they started coming in.  A whole THREE of them.

I took my chance and I chose to interview with one of them on June 25th. I KNEW this job was for me even before I drove up to CT the day before.  This was going to work and it's another step forward to change.

The morning of my interview, I was eating breakfast in the hotel and it tarted to thunder storm with HAIL.  Holy crap - is that a sign? Should I go home?  Nope, ate my breakfast and said a Hail Mary (yes, mom I still remember it) and told God it was a really bad joke.

My interview was great.  It was scheduled from 930am to 11am - I didn't leave until 1200pm.  It was great conversation, laughter and mutual respect across the board.  I walked out to a sunny day and knew I landed the job. Thankfully I received written confirmation and it's done.

Next steps are coming together as well.  Time off, movers and a start date of August 27.

Something I've kept on my desk and read everyday -

May there be peace within,

May you trust that you are exactly where you are meant to be,

May you not forget the infinite possibilities that are born of faith in yourself and others,

May you use the gifts that you have received, and pass on the love that

has been given to you,

May you be content with yourself just the way you are,

Let this knowledge settle into your bones, and allow your soul the freedom to sing, dance, praise and love.

A friend at work said to me recently that he was just shocked at how all of this came together.  He told me "Peg, you willed this".   Well damn if I didn't. I wanted it and willed it to happen.

More to follow ...
